Directed Generative Production

The director makes the choices. The tools carry them out.

Generative tools can produce striking images quickly. A film needs more than that. It needs the same character in every shot, a camera that behaves as planned, architecture that holds its shape, and the ability to take a note without starting again.

Those qualities come from production decisions: script, design, staging, lenses, lighting and performance. We make sure those decisions are made deliberately, captured properly and used to guide the generative work, alongside 3D, compositing and established visual effects wherever they serve the shot better.

It is a model familiar from high-end visual effects: a supervisor who helps design the film on the client side, then remains responsible for delivering it.

Where we come in

Four stages. One line of thinking.

Bring us in from the first read of the script, or for the stage where you need us most. The scope is agreed around each production.

01
Script & development

Decide how it gets made.

We read the script with the director and producers, break down the scenes and identify what will be difficult or costly early. For each sequence we weigh photography, practical builds, locations, virtual production, 3D, generative methods and conventional VFX, and recommend the combination that serves the film.

02
Visualisation & testing

Prove it before you commit.

Concepts, previs and targeted shot tests make the approach intelligible to the director, the producers and the crew. We establish the look early while leaving room for the film to develop, and we test the hardest shots before a schedule depends on them.

03
On set

Capture what the finish needs.

We carry the plan onto the set. Working alongside the camera department, the stage team and the rest of the crew, we make sure the performance, photography, lens data and reference that the finish depends on are captured before the set is struck.

04
Finishing & delivery

Direct the image to the last frame.

We direct the generative work and integrate it with photography, 3D and compositing, supervised with the scrutiny of high-end visual effects. Notes are taken shot by shot, and the work is delivered within the production’s review and post requirements.

How we work

What we hold ourselves to.

01

Notes, not rerolls.

A director should be able to ask for one specific change and get it, without losing the performance, camera or design they have already approved.

02

The method fits the shot.

Photography, practical builds, virtual production, 3D, compositing and generative methods have different strengths and costs. We choose shot by shot.

03

Craft stays central.

Performers, crews and production knowledge give the image its intent. Generative tools extend what they can do. They do not replace them.

Models & platforms

Models are commodities. Judgment isn’t.

We are often asked which models and platforms we use. The honest answer is whichever best serves the shot in front of us, and that answer changes faster than the question can be asked. New models arrive every few weeks, and today’s best option is often overtaken before a production wraps.

So we treat models and platforms as interchangeable tools and invest where the value lasts: in the production decisions that guide them, the craft that finishes the image, and our own system for working across them. We choose shot by shot and project by project, weighing image quality, control, cost, terms and each production’s own requirements.

Whatever we use, the production knows. We agree on the services that will handle its material before work begins.

Production drives development.

We have built our own production system to connect tools, coordinate tasks and keep work moving between creative stages, so more of a team’s time goes on the images and less on managing the process around them. It is in use on our productions, its agentic next generation is in active development, and artists and filmmakers stay in charge of the creative decisions.
