Generative AI is not neutral. The tools we use, the datasets they were trained on, and the workflows they displace all carry consequences. We take those consequences seriously.
Wander• was established by VFX professionals who have spent careers inside the industry these tools affect. We are not observers of this transition. We are participants, and we intend to participate responsibly.
The questions being asked of generative AI in film production are not abstract. They concern the livelihoods of working artists, the integrity of creative authorship, and the long-term health of an industry built on skilled labour. We think clearly about all three.
These are not aspirations. They are operating conditions for every project we take on.
Generative techniques at Wander• are used to extend what human-led production can achieve, not to substitute for it. Every project involves qualified artists, supervisors, and technicians. Headcount decisions are never driven by the availability of generative tools.
The generative tooling in our pipeline is either trained on licensed datasets, trained on material we have rights to, or developed in collaboration with rights holders. We do not use scraped or unlicensed creative work as training data, and we apply that standard to all third-party tools we integrate.
When generative methods are used in a deliverable, we say so. Shot type, methodology, and pipeline are disclosed as part of our standard production reporting. Clients are never left uncertain about what they are receiving.
We follow the development of emerging standards from BECTU, PACT, and the wider HETV sector, and we adapt our practices as those frameworks mature. We engage with the process rather than waiting for it.
Artists whose work informs generative outputs should be credited and compensated. This is a live and unresolved problem across the industry. We do not pretend otherwise.
Where we can act, in our own contracts, our own credits, and our own hiring, we act. Where the industry needs structural solutions, we support the people working to build them.
We do not claim to have solved what the industry has not yet solved. We do claim to be working on the right side of it.
